Sommerhalle Öhringen

The tradition of timbered buildings in the town of Öhringen has inspired the design and structure of the Sommerhalle for the 2016 Garden show. Similar to the barns and orangery found in the park a singular pitched roof volume is formulated. As a warm heart of the building a cabin in wood hosts the catering kitchen and toilets. Diagonally positioned timbered trusses span the 950 m2 hall and ensure a rigid construction with no columns subdividing the space. This way a maximum flexible space is created for events, stage performances, ice skating etc. Between two membranes suspended from the trusses air can circulate for cooling. The outer transparent PTFE layer works as weather protection and the inner perforated white fabric will filter the sun during the summer.

Designed for the competition “National Gardenshow Öhringen” 2016 in collaboration with ManMadeLand.
